The GIANTS’ VFL side will play three huge AFL curtain raisers this season as well as a monster twilight clash with the Swans following a Derby between the two AFL sides.

The GIANTS will open their campaign against Footscray at Whitten Oval on Sunday, March 24 at 12:05pm.

After a round two bye, the GIANTS will then host Sandringham in Canberra in round three in an AFL curtain raiser as the GIANTS’ AFL side hosts the Saints at Manuka Oval.

The GIANTS’ VFL side will feature in two more AFL curtain raisers, with the orange and charcoal set to take on Geelong at GMHBA Stadium in round nine as well as the Swans in round 13 at GIANTS Stadium in a huge VFL/AFL double-derby day.

Other highlights of the fixture are a round four away trip against last year’s premiership runner-up Werribee, while in round 17 the GIANTS will host the reigning premiers, the Gold Coast Suns.

Earlier in round six the GIANTS will have their first crack at the Swans, with their cross-town rivals set to host the Orange Tsunami at the SCG in a big twilight clash following a stoush between the two AFL sides.

While the VFL has confirmed the first 13 rounds of the fixture in Tuesday’s announcement, rounds 14-21 will move to a floating fixture.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said the club is excited about the upcoming VFL season.

“Wayne Cripps [GIANTS VFL head coach] did a great job in his first season in charge last year and we’re excited about where he can take the side in 2024,” McCartney said.

“After implementing a whole new game plan under a new coach last season, we feel we’ve really set the foundations for our VFL side to take it up another level this year and we can’t wait for the season to get underway.

“It’s also really exciting having three curtain raisers in our fixture and we can’t wait for GIANTS fans to get along early and support our VFL boys before the AFL side takes the park.

“The VFL boys are really ramping up their preparations at the moment and we can’t wait to take on the ‘Dogs in round one and hopefully kick off the season with a bang.”
