The GIANTS have made the most of the delisted free agency period by swooping on talented Tasmanian teenager Claire Ransom and exciting former Blue Daisy Walker.

Pick 34 in the 2022 AFLW Draft, Ransom joins the GIANTS from the Gold Coast Suns where she played two games in her debut season before being placed on the inactive list in 2023 for personal reasons.

A tough but silky-smooth midfielder with great evasive skills, Ransom was drafted by the Suns after starring for the Tasmania Devils in the NAB League girls' competition.

The gun 19-year-old, who can also play on a wing and up forward, was named in both the 2021 and 2022 NAB League Teams of the Year, while also being named vice-captain in the 2022 side.

Hailing from Victoria, Walker also joins the GIANTS as a delisted free agent after four seasons in navy blue.

With 31 AFLW games to her name at just 21 years of age, Walker has proven to be a reliable utility in a number of roles since being taken with pick 28 in the 2020 AFLW Draft.

Recruited out of the Sandringham Dragons, Walker played 26 consecutive games after debuting for the club in round three, 2021, before adding five more games to her tally in season 2023.

Capable of playing a lockdown role on dangerous smalls, Walker can also play as an attacking half-back, on the wing, or even up forward.

GIANTS Executive General Manager - Football Strategy and Operations, Briana Harvey, is thrilled with the additions of the young duo.

“We are really excited to pick up both Claire and Daisy as we think they both have so much to offer the GIANTS,” Harvey said.

“Claire was one of the highest rated juniors in the draft just two years ago and we were very keen on her then and we are thrilled to land her at the GIANTS now.

“Claire is a great runner and a real talent, and we think she can come in and have an immediate impact.

“Likewise, we are rapt to see Daisy as a GIANT, and we think she can come in and play a number of roles for us next season.

“Daisy has shown she’s a very reliable footballer with a great team-first attitude and we can’t wait to welcome her to the GIANTS.

“We’ve been quite active in the trade and free agency periods, and we feel Claire and Daisy are two more strong additions to help us achieve the success we are aiming for in the future.”
