A key member of the GIANTS’ backline, Himmelberg is a tall defender capable of also playing on smaller opponents. Originally a member of the GIANTS Academy, Himmelberg was a regular top-up player for the GIANTS’ NEAFL side in his draft year before being taken as a first-round selection by the club in the 2015 AFL Draft. Himmelberg was utilised as a forward in his early years at the club, most notably kicking four goals in a preliminary final in 2017. Sitting as the GIANTS’ third all-time leading goalkicker, with 164 majors, Himmelberg has since established himself as a star down back after being moved to defence in the middle of the 2022 season. With a great ability to read the play, as well as being a very capable one-on-one defender, the versatile swingman has cemented himself as an integral part of the GIANTS’ backline. Becoming known for his high-flying antics, Himmelberg won the 2023 AFL Mark of the Year for a monster grab against Adelaide in round one. Himmelberg will remain a GIANT until at least the end of the 2029 season after turning his back on free agency to sign a huge six-year deal in the middle of the 2023 campaign.
