Amanda Farrugia is a Physical Education teacher at Our Lady of Mercy College in Parramatta – the school she attended as a student years earlier. After taking up AFL as a way to maintain her fitness in 2011, Farrugia soon became a star for AFL Sydney side Macquarie University. She won the 2015 Mostyn Medal as the Best and Fairest in the AFL Sydney Women’s competition and backed it up with a second honour in 2017 and again in 2019. The GIANTS inaugural captain retired in late November 2019.
