Defender Phil Davis has been cleared of injury after going to hospital on the Gold Coast following Sunday’s win over the Bombers.

Davis received a knock to his back before half-time and despite playing out the match, was still in discomfort following the game.

Given his history with serious internal injuries in 2014 where the brave defender lost a part of his kidney, Davis was sent to hospital for tests on Sunday night.

GIANTS Head of Medical Cullan Ball said:

“Phil got a knock to his back during the game and was in some pain and discomfort.

“He did really well to play out the game but was feeling nauseous and some soreness still post-match so the decision was made to double check there were no underlying issues.

“Tests on Sunday night cleared him of any injury which is great news.”

Meanwhile, captain Stephen Coniglio will be a test to play this week after being a late withdrawal from Sunday’s game.

“Stephen reported some soreness in the toe he had operated on earlier in the year and didn’t get through Saturday’s Captain’s Run so we made the cautious decision to pull him out of the game,” Ball said.

“We’ll see how he settles across the early part of this week and then how he trains on Thursday in terms of his availability to play this weekend.

“It was a significant injury to his toe and ankle that he had earlier this year so we want to make sure he’s confident and ready to go when he’s back out on the field.”

Adam Kennedy will miss this week’s clash with the Power after suffering a low-grade hamstring injury in Sunday’s match.

“Adam was able to play out the game but scans on Monday revealed a grade one medial hamstring strain,” Ball said.

“We’d expect him to miss one-to-two weeks with this injury.”

Ruckman Matt Flynn also underwent a successful shoulder reconstruction late last week in Sydney and will miss the remainder of the season.
