Debutant Jack Buckley suffered a delayed concussion on Saturday night but is expected to be available for Friday night footy against the Saints.

Buckley went back with the flight of the ball into big marking contests numerous times and was cleared on the field before feeling unwell post-match.

GIANTS Head of Medical Cullan Ball said Buckley had passed all the concussion protocols thus far.

“He was involved in a couple of pretty heavy incidents, heavy knocks, and he was fine during the game - we checked on him multiple times and he was ok,” Ball said.

“After the game he came off and started to feel a bit off and he was diagnosed with a delayed concussion post-game.

“He’s pulled up really well and he’s got enough time going through the concussion protocols to play in the next game.

“He’s ticked all the boxes so far. He’ll train tomorrow non-contact and then if he’s good there we’ll tick his contact off and I’d expect him to be ok to play.”

Former captain Callan Ward is a test for this week as he recovers from a dislocated finger.

“Wardy’s going really well,” Ball said.

“He needs to get a bit more work into his finger, get a bit more movement and work his way through a bit more contact work tomorrow to make sure he’s comfortable to go.

“We’ll assess him tomorrow post-training and make a decision from there.”
