Greater Western Sydney GIANTS General Manager of Football Graeme Allan said the club had begun the process of identifying a replacement for assistant coach Mark Williams who resigned earlier this month to move to Melbourne to take up a development coaching role with Richmond.
“We are looking at a number of options. The first is to appoint an experienced senior assistant coach, the second is to go for a younger assistant coach and the third is to promote from within. We haven’t made a decision yet about the direction we want to take but these are the options we are considering. It’s obviously an important decision and one we want to get right," Allan said.
“Whatever way we go we think it's a plum role and there will be no shortage of candidates. We’ve shown in our first year that we play a tough, competitive and exciting brand of football and we have a talented young playing list as evidenced by the record eight NAB AFL Rising Star nominations.
“The right person will also have the opportunity to work alongside one of the greats of coaching in Kevin Sheedy who has won four premierships and also helped groom a number of senior AFL coaches such as Mark Thompson, James Hird and Neale Daniher.”
