Following last week’s announcement that the State Government will support the redevelopment of Sydney Showground’s, Team GWS can now unveil the exciting artist impressions of how the venue will look in 2012.

The Showground’s redevelopment will mean Team GWS fans will now be able to enjoy a modern 25,000 seat stadium to showcase home games from season 2012. Families will enjoy first class facilities allowing the club to create a great experience for the fans.

The redevelopment will include

· New grandstands to the North East and South East of the stadium.

· Installation of a new high definition video scoreboard and public address system

· Bringing the venue up to AFL Standards with new facilities for broadcasters, media, players and officials.

· In addition to the Royal Easter Show and home games for Team GWS, a multi purpose venue which could also be used by other sports including cricket, rugby league, rugby union and soccer as well as other forms of entertainment including concerts and festivals.

· Increased usage of existing infrastructure at Sydney Olympic Park including public transport, function facilities, restaurants and car parks.

This announcement marks an important milestone for Team GWS as we work to build the first AFL Club in Greater Western Sydney. This redevelopment is fundamental to the establishment of the Club. This is a terrific result, not only for our Club, but for all of New South Wales as this will redevelop existing infrastructure into a multi purpose venue which will enhance the experience of visitors to Greater Western Sydney.

The Sydney Showground redevelopment will be funded by the Sate Government, the Australian Football League and the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS). This stadium enhancement will greatly benefit the community, with an additional $446 million of economic and social value for NSW and an estimated 3,400 jobs for Western Sydney.

The upgrade will enable Sydney Showground to attract and retain major events well into the future and generate greater returns for the RAS to invest into programs which support agriculture, education, competitions, youth and regional NSW.

The development of Sydney Showground is a long term investment in the community and supports the Master Plan for Sydney Olympic Park to continue to develop this area and to enhance its reputation as a premier commercial, residential, sporting and entertainment precinct.

Team GWS is committed to mobilising this club throughout Greater Western Sydney. With a home base at Blacktown and matches to be played at the Sydney Showgrounds, these are just the first steps to creating a truly accessible club for the people of Greater Western Sydney.

The intention for Blacktown Olympic Park was always to remain the Club’s training and administration base. We are extremely proud of the facility we have developed there with the assistance of Blacktown City Council and Cricket NSW. The next few years will see some exciting developments at the Blacktown venue as it truly becomes a community hub for everyone.
