Former co-captain Callan Ward will be sidelined for the next four to six weeks after injuring his lateral collateral ligament in his right knee.

Ward hurt his knee during the match against the Power on Sunday but played out the game before scans revealed the injury on Monday.

The injury isn’t to the knee he had reconstructed last season.

“We’re really disappointed for Wardy,” Head of Medical Cullan Ball said.

“He kicked around his body and had that kick smothered.

“He did some damage to his lateral collateral ligament in his right knee, so that’s not the one he had reconstructed last year which we’re thankful about.

“We expect he’ll probably miss four to six weeks depending on how quickly he settles down but thankfully no need for surgery.

“We saw him this morning and he was in really good spirits and ready to crack in to his rehab."

Forward Daniel Lloyd will be a test for this week’s game after sustaining a concussion in the second quarter of Sunday’s match.

“Lloydy ran into Jez Cameron actually and came from the field,” Ball said.

"The doc examined him and he passed his pitch-side concussion assessment and was cleared to come back and play.

"Sometimes they can develop some delayed symptoms, which he did, and at that point he was re-tested and failed his concussion test and had to sit the rest of the game out.

“He’s actually come up pretty well early in the week and was able to get through a bike today.

“If everything goes well, he has just enough time to be ready for the game this weekend.”

Defender Adam Kennedy remains a week-to-week prospect after soreness in his hamstring tendon.

"Kenners has just got some upper tendon soreness and they can be a little unpredictable in their nature and how they respond,” Ball said.

“He’s still a little sore there. We don’t think he’ll be right this weekend and he’ll miss one or two weeks but it’s a week-to-week proposition.”

Meanwhile, draftee Tom Hutchesson (hamstring) and young midfielder Xavier O’Halloran (concussion) are expected to be available for selection this week.

The GIANTS take on the Brisbane Lions on Saturday at GIANTS Stadium.
