Greater Western Sydney GIANTS small forward Nathan Wilson has been named to play his first AFL match for the season against Carlton this Saturday.

The 20-year-old kicked three goals for the UWS GIANTS in the NEAFL last week and will play his 10th game at Etihad Stadium.

Wilson has been named in a forward pocket and comes into the team with Jacob Townsend and ruckman Dean Brogan, who has overcome a back complaint.

Setanta O’hAilpin, Anthony Miles and Stephen Gilham have all been omitted.

GIANTS Head Coach Kevin Sheedy, who’ll coach against Mick Malthouse for the 47th time on Saturday, says Wilson’s forward line pressure will be important against Carlton.

“Nathan Wilson’s a young player from Western Australia, it’s his first game this year and he’ll add some speed and some goal kicking power for us and help us keep that ball in the forward line,” said Sheedy.

“Dean Brogan is back in for another game in the ruck, and out of the side for him goes Setanta O’hAilpin which is a bit unfortunate as I would have loved to have played him against his old side Carlton but he had a calf injury and has been missing for two or three weeks himself.

“We were very disappointing against West Coast. It’s been a very tough month for the boys who’ve had to play just about every one of the top teams from the finals last year in the first nine games.

“We played well at Etihad Stadium last time we were there against Essendon and I think we can go down there and play extremely well again this week.

“We’re looking forward to this match and seeing if we can put up a much better performance,” he said.
