PM Capital GIANTS Academy coach Mark McVeigh expects at least 15 of his players to earn Under-16 state selection on the back of a 3-0 series whitewash against the Swans Academy.

The GIANTS capped a dominant series with a convincing 94-point victory over their cross-town rivals on Saturday.

The latest result follows 31-point and 100-point wins earlier in the season.

McVeigh said the PM Capital GIANTS Academy should be well represented in the NSW/ACT Under-16 squad, which will be announced early next month.

“This group has put in some strong performances but we’ll have to wait and see how many boys are selected to take part in the National Championships in the Gold Coast,” McVeigh said.

“Given the strong results I would expect a minimum of 15 GIANTS Academy players to be selected, possibly more.

“We’ve spent a lot of time lifting the benchmark at training and feel that we have a very talented group of footballers on our hands.”

McVeigh said western Sydney academy members Lyndon Hupfeld, Brandon Clark and Billy Lambert were among those touted for selection.

Canberra academy members Sam Fisher, Tom Highmore and Logan Gray are also strongly in the mix.

“Logan plays quite similar to Paddy Ryder which is really exciting to see given his age,” McVeigh said.

“Lyndon is another one to watch, he kicked four goals on the weekend and has been a consistent performer for us.”

“To be honest I could probably name most of our squad given the amount of talent we have.”

PM Capital GIANTS Academy players not selected to take part in the National Championships will remain in the academy program to further their development.

The 2014 NAB AFL Under-16 National Championships will take place this July in the Gold Coast.
