The AFL has declared StarTrack Oval ready for the GIANTS’ clash with Port Adelaide in Canberra.
The ground was inspected this week and it was found to be in good condition for this Saturday’s match.
The report determined there was very little sign of the topdressing sand that was evident during the match on April 12.
The ground came under fire following the GIANTS’ Round 4 match against the Western Bulldogs with the surface covered in sand after the Sheffield Shield final weeks earlier.
“The people down there that manage the ground, they acknowledged it was probably not up to scratch (last time) for an AFL game, but we’ve got over it,” GIANTS Head Coach Leon Cameron said on Wednesday.
“The previous game we played down there against Sydney in the NAB Cup was absolutely fantastic.
“That ground down there is elite, it was just probably sub-standard in that game that we played but I’m very, very confident it’s going to be a fantastic surface.”
