The PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy U18 side fought out a tough win over the Swans Academy to take out the AFL NSW/ACT Academy series in a clean sweep.
The Under-18s series wrapped up on March 28 at Gungahlin in the ACT as the PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy 11.9 (75) defeated the Swans Academy 10.6 (66).
The game two win followed a 16-point victory in the first match of the two-game series in Sydney the week before.
The GIANTS controlled play well for the first half but could only manage a 19-point lead at half time.
The Swans dominated the third quarter, winning majority of one on one contests taking a narrow lead into three quarter-time.
After their lack of competitiveness, the GIANTS regained some ascendency in the fourth term around the stoppages and were able to wrestle back momentum.
Clutch goals from Matt Kennedy and Donald Roberts late gave the GIANTS a had fought win and a clean sweep of the Under-18 Academy Series.
In other Academy news, the initial 50-man squad to represent the NSW/ACT RAMS in the TAC Cup competition has been announced with the PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy represented by 26 players.
The squad came together for a Camp in Albury last weekend in preparation for the 2015 TAC Cup.
Following their re-introduction to the TAC Cup competition last year the NSW/ACT RAMS will again play seven regular season games in 2015.
With many of the GIANTS Academy players living close to or on the NSW/ACT border already aligned to other TAC Cup sides, it’s a great representation for the PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy.
