Young midfielders Stephen Coniglio and Taylor Adams will make a welcome return to the Greater Western Sydney GIANTS team to play Hawthorn at the MCG this Sunday.
Coniglio, one of the club’s five NAB Rising Star nominations and the number two draft pick, returns after missing threegames because of thumb surgery and Adams also returns from suspension.
The GIANTS have named a 25-man squad with Andrew Phillips, Nick Haynes and Sam Darley all in line for selection this week following some strong performances with the UWS GIANTS.
GIANTS co-captain Luke Power (ribs) and Dylan Shiel (foot) were both injured in the GIANTS clash with the Swans on Saturday night. Power is expected to miss the next two matches, while Shielwill be sidelined for three to four weeks.
WATCH HEAD COACH KEVIN SHEEDY DISCUSS THIS WEEK'S SELECTION PANEL
Head Coach Kevin Sheedy said: “Selection this week had been demanding because obviously we’ve had a very big hit out against the Swans and unfortunately we came away with a few injuries.
“We’re looking forward to having Stephen Coniglio back, as we’ve been without him since the Geelong game. Coniglio and Taylor Adams are strong inclusions for our midfield, who have a very tough challenge this week.
“Andrew Phillips has been in really good form in the NEAFL side. Last week he was our best player and he’s developing extremely well, we’re very happy with his performance.
“Tomorrow we’ll finalise the team, making three or four changes before heading down to the MCG, the home of football as they say. It’ll be a great experience for this young team coming through, in it’s infancy in the AFL.”
