Coming off a career best season, Jeremy Cameron says the time is right for his elevation into the GIANTS leadership group.

The 26-year old was this week announced as one of three inclusions, with Toby Greene and Lachie Whitfield, to the group to support incoming captain Stephen Coniglio for the year ahead.

Cameron says he feels more ownership within the playing group than ever before heading into his ninth season in the AFL.

"It brings a little bit more responsibility," he said.

"Some guys are really good leaders straight away and others take time, and I think that’s been the case with myself.

"In recent years I've sat back and let my football do the talking, but out on the field I like leading the forward line along with Toby (Greene) and the other experienced guys.

"It's an honour to have the guys vote me in, it's a privilege and I'm really thankful."

The vast majority of the GIANTS playing group is fit and firing and taking part in most the training sessions as the 2020 season approaches.

It's an honour to have the guys vote me in.

Despite the disappointment of a Grand Final loss, the 2019 Coleman Medallist said he’s confident the team can carry forward their strong form from September into the new season.

"It's pretty obvious that we were all disappointed," he said.

"You're not sure if guys are going to come back to training stressing about it, or if they're going to have it in the back of their minds, or are they going to come back fit and firing and ready to go.

"It's definitely been the latter.

"We're a hungry group and we want to have a crack again, we don't want to be one-hit wonders and hit the Grand Final one year, then not make the finals the next year."

Cameron is entering the fifth year of his landmark five year contract with the GIANTS and said he’s completely comfortable with how discussions with the club are progressing.

"Some people get it done really quick, some don't, and some take time like 'Cogs' (did),” said Cameron.

"Things are ticking along nicely, I'm speaking to the right people and it's all looking positive.

"I'm definitely pretty happy with the way things are going."
