The GIANTS have won their fourth-consecutive game in the VFL Women’s invitational series with a 34-point win over Essendon on Saturday.

In trying conditions, the GIANTS were too good for the Bombers at The Hangar, running out winners 5.13 (43) to 1.3 (9).

Swirling winds made goalkicking tough for the GIANTS, who dominated the inside-50 count.

Tait Mackrill, who was one of five goalkickers for the GIANTS, said it wasn’t a game for forwards.

“It was a tough day given the conditions, particularly for forwards as they couldn’t really lead up at the ball and take many clean grabs,” Mackrill told GIANTS Radio on Sunday.

“All of the girls who rotated through the middle did a good job of settling the ship and keeping everyone composed.”

While the GIANTS remain undefeated with one game to play in their five-game VFLW invitational series, Essendon proved to be one of their toughest opponents so far.

“Essendon, whilst they don’t have stacks of AFLW players, are just a tough outfit,” Mackrill said.

“They go about their football in a way that other teams haven’t, their hunt for the footy was second to none, so it was a good hit-out.”

Britt Tully was impressive in her first game back for the GIANTS, while Ellie Brush, Alicia Eva and Alyce Parker were also named among the best players by the GIANTS coaches.

East Coast Eagle Emily Goodsir also featured among the best players as she, and a number of other New South Wales and ACT players, pushed their case to be drafted by the GIANTS ahead of the 2020 AFLW season.

“It was really good having Britt Tully from Canberra back after she took the year off last year,” Mackrill said.

“The likes of Emily Goodsir, who has come through the AFL Sydney ranks (and) has been impressive and so has Sarah Ford.

“There’s a lot of promising young girls coming through the ranks, it’s exciting times for the GIANTS.”

The GIANTS’ VFLW invitational series concludes when they play Collingwood on Sunday, August 11 at Victoria Park.
