Exciting GIANTS draftee Yameen Janschek has re-signed for an additional year, keeping her in Western Sydney until at least the end of the 2028 NAB AFLW Season. 

The young ruck has enjoyed a flying start to her career in orange and charcoal, debuting in the round one win against the Eagles and making a significant impact in the GIANTS’ stoppage and contest play. 

Already signed on for next season, the promising younger’s strong form has seen her rewarded with a one-year contract extension.  

Less than three years into her football journey, Janschek’s work rate and intent have been standard bearers throughout her first pre-season and six games at AFLW level. 

Making the switch from netball to Australian rules football just three years ago, Janschek’s raw talent secured her a position with the Sydney Swans Academy from the UTS Bats, in her second-ever football season.  

A cross-town move to the GIANTS Academy secured her place on the radar of GIANTS AFLW List Manager Tyson Bourke ahead of the 2025 National Draft, where she was selected with the GIANTS’ third selection of the night at pick 55 overall. 

Supported by two competition leaders in the midfield, in Bec Beeson and Alyce Parker, Janschek has established herself as a key player in the GIANTS’ bright future. 

Executive General Manager of AFLW Alison Zell congratulated Janschek on the extension and for the role she has played through the first half of the 2026 season.  

“Yas has made a significant impact for us across her first few games as a GIANT and we’re ecstatic to have her continue with the club until at least 2028,” Zell said. 

“She has been an incredibly popular addition to the team and has shown a zeal for improvement and output on the training track and in-game. 

“We’ve been ecstatic as to how impressive Yas has been so early in her career, especially against some of the best rucks in the league.  

“We look forward to seeing her grow as she gets more games under her belt and her continued craft development as a young star of the team.”
