The GIANTS’ VFL side will unfortunately be without two of its stars for the remainder of the season following injuries to James Bell and Louie Montgomery.
Bell will miss the rest of what’s been a brilliant debut campaign in orange and charcoal after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury suffered in the side’s loss to Frankston on the weekend.
The tough midfielder damaged ligaments in his left ankle, with the surgery requiring up to three months of rehabilitation.
It brings an end to a starring season for Bell in which he’s averaged 23 disposals, four tackles, and five clearances per game to play a major part in the side’s strong year to date.
Meanwhile Montgomery, who has also enjoyed a fantastic season, will take no further part in 2026 after suffering a high-grade hamstring injury against Frankston.
While he won’t require surgery, the severity of the injury rules him out for the remainder of the 2026 campaign.
Montgomery has been a key piece for the GIANTS’ VFL side across all three lines this season, with the impressive 20-year-old averaging a shade under 20 disposals and five marks per game while proving to be a dangerous threat in attack over the past month.
The GIANTS’ VFL side, who currently sit in fifth spot at 9-5 on the season, will face the Swans in the VFL edition of the Sydney Derby at ENGIE Stadium on Saturday.
