Sir Doug Nicholls Round is a key point in the Australian sporting calendar to recognise and celebrate the contributions of First Nations peoples to our game. In 2026, the AFL proudly marks the 11-year anniversary of Sir Doug Nicholls Round — honouring the extraordinary contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players, cultures, and communities to Australian football. This year’s celebration will take place over two rounds, rounds 10 and 11 where each club will wear their Indigenous designed jumper and participate in some special pre-game ceremonies/activations to celebrate the longest living culture in the world. 
 
Milestone - Harvey Thomas  
 
Set to celebrate his 50th AFL game this weekend, GIANTS Academy graduate Harvey Thomas has quickly become a key part of the GIANTS’ AFL side since being selected with pick 59 in the 2023 AFL Draft. After debuting in the 2024 Opening Round win over Collingwood, he played 22 games in an impressive first season, earning an AFL Rising Star nomination in round 14, before adding a further 18 games in 2025. Originally a half-forward, Thomas has thrived since moving permanently to the wing in 2026, establishing himself as one of the competition’s most consistent wingmen thanks to his toughness, footy IQ and polished left foot.

Heading along to Optus Stadium this Sunday? West Australian based GIANTS members will have the opportunity to collect their 2026 member cap at the game, with Cheer Squad members also able to collect their Cheer Squad scarf. 

Please note, only members who opted for a pack rather than a merchandise voucher will be eligible to collect a cap and it is advised to arrive early for collection.

The GIANTS will name their extended AFL squad on Thursday at 6:20pm and their final team at 5pm on Friday at www.gwsgiants.com.au.  

The VFL side will also be named at 5pm on Friday.
