The GIANTS are excited to announce that Jayden Laverde has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

Originally joining the GIANTS on a one-year deal ahead of the current 2026 season, Laverde has been a brilliant addition to the GIANTS’ backline where his strong form has seen him rewarded with a new two-year contract to see him through until the end of the 2028 season.

After 10 years and 146 games with Essendon, Laverde swapped the red and black for orange and charcoal in the summer, after the GIANTS saw a great opportunity to further strength their backline with Laverde’s experience and grit.

Known for his competitiveness and ability to lock down dangerous forwards, Laverde has wasted no time in showcasing his attributes as a GIANT, with the 30-year-old’s courage, toughness and ability to nullify some of the league’s best key forwards seeing him become an extremely valuable addition to Adam Kinglsey’s side.

Joining the club to further bolster its key defensive stocks alongside the likes of Jack Buckley and Sam Taylor, Laverde has certainly made the most of his opportunities early in the season, playing a vital role down back across the first eight games of the season.

Laverde’s new deal comes as he prepares to face off with his former side for the first time when the GIANTS host the Bombers on Saturday at ENGIE Stadium.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said it was great to reward Laverde with a new contract.

“Jayden has been nothing short of fantastic since arriving at the club and it’s great that we’ve been able to sign him for another two years,” McCartney said.

“We saw an opportunity to recruit Jayden over the summer to help add further experience and toughness to our backline and he’s come in and taken his opportunity and been a really solid contributor to the side.

“We always know what we’re going to get with Jayden and that’s a never say die attitude and that’s exactly the sort of player we want at our club.”

Fresh off his new deal, Laverde’s clash with his former side will come at 4:15pm on Saturday when the GIANTS face off with the Bombers.
