The GIANTS are delighted to announce a two-year contract extension for AFLW Head Coach Cam Bernasconi. 

Already signed on for the upcoming 2026 AFLW season, the new deal will see Bernasconi through until at least the end of the 2028 season. 

While taking the reins of the club’s AFLW side ahead of season seven in 2022, Bernasconi was first involved with the club back in its earliest iteration as a member of the club’s inaugural TAC Cup side in 2010.  

Prior to his role as the club’s AFLW Head Coach, Bernasconi was the Head Coach of the GIANTS Academy where he worked across both the female and male Academies and was responsible for the success of many Academy graduates who went on to fulfil their AFL and AFLW dreams.  

Now entering his fifth season as the club’s AFLW Head Coach in 2026, Bernasconi continues to be critical in developing the GIANTS’ talented young group. 

A fantastic coach and an incredible leader with a strong connection to the playing group, the GIANTS decision to extend Bernasconi’s contract comes with the firm belief that he is the perfect person to guide the club’s AFLW program into the future.  

GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW, Alison Zell, congratulated Bernasconi on his extension.  

“We know that Cam is the right person to continue to lead our AFLW side and we’re excited about extending his contract for a further two years,” Zell said.  

“We view Cam as a long-term coach of our AFLW side and so it made perfect sense to provide him that confidence and security and get a new deal done.  

“Cam has built a really strong connection with our group and has the complete buy-in from the entire program. 

“Over the past 12 months we’ve reviewed all aspects of our program and structures to identify our gaps and opportunities for improvement. We’ve set out to provide Cam with a strong coaching group underneath him in 2026 and are looking forward to that coming to fruition. 

“Under his leadership we’re building an identifiable brand of footy that we believe with the continued growth and development of our young group will put us in a great spot for sustained success.” 

The GIANTS’ AFLW program will officially begin pre-season on May 11 in preparation for the 2026 AFLW season beginning in August.
