The GIANTS are proud to announce that recently retired club legend Callan Ward will continue his legacy in orange and charcoal, taking on a new part-time role as  Business and Football Advisor for the 2026 season.

Following a remarkable 18-year AFL career - including 14 seasons and a record 267 games with the GIANTS - Ward will transition into an off-field role that spans both the football and commercial departments of the club.

Living in Melbourne with his wife Ruby and their children Romeo, Ralfie, and Rex, Ward’s new role will allow him to remain based in Victoria while continuing to have a meaningful presence at the club he helped build.

Ward said he is excited by the opportunity to stay closely connected to the GIANTS and spend time in Sydney through this next chapter.

“I’m incredibly grateful to continue my journey with the GIANTS,” Ward said.

“This club means so much to me and my family, and I’m looking forward to giving back in a different way - helping develop the next generation of players while also supporting the work being done off the field to grow the club’s reach and impact.”

In his new role, Ward will work across both football and business operations - mentoring young players, contributing to recruiting and list management, supporting the club’s AFLW leadership group, and reinforcing the club’s culture, while also contributing to key commercial partnerships, fundraising efforts, and major club events.

Ward’s exciting new role was announced by GIANTS Chief Executive Officer, David Matthews, at the Kevin Sheedy Medal at Crown Sydney on Thursday night.

“We’re thrilled that Callan will continue to have a presence at the club and help shape our future both on and off the field,” Matthews said.

“Callan has been central to the GIANTS story from day one - as an inaugural co-captain, a fierce competitor, and a cultural cornerstone.

“His experience, integrity, and connection to the GIANTS will make him an invaluable asset in this new role.”

Ward’s appointment ensures that one of the most respected figures in club history remains a guiding force as the GIANTS enter their next phase - with eyes firmly fixed on sustained success and continued growth.
