The GIANTS are pleased to announce that emerging midfielder Harry Rowston has signed a new two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2028 AFL season.
Already contracted for 2026, the new two-year extension is a reward for the 21-year-old’s perseverance, versatility, and development since joining the GIANTS as an Academy graduate with pick 16 in the 2022 AFL Draft.
Debuting in 2023, Rowston managed seven appearances at AFL level in his maiden season before spending much of 2024 overcoming a back issue while impressing with consistent VFL form when fit.
A tough onballer with a strong football IQ, Rowston has continued to work hard for his opportunities at AFL level, with the young midfielder breaking into the side in round 14 this season for his first senior game in almost two years before going on to play in nine straight games to take his career tally to 17.
Making the most of his opportunities, Rowston enjoyed a breakout performance in round 17 where he kicked a career-high four goals in an eye-catching display up forward to earn himself an AFL Rising Star nomination and highlight his ability to adapt to different roles.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said Rowston’s extension was a fitting recognition of his growth and resilience.
“Harry is a GIANTS Academy product who’s had to work hard and show real patience across his first few years at the club and it’s fantastic to be able to reward him with a two-year extension,” McCartney said.
“He’s continued to develop his game, whether that’s as a midfielder or more recently as a forward, and his breakout performance against West Coast highlighted the talent and impact we know he can bring at AFL level.
“Harry’s a terrific young man with a load of talent we’re delighted to see him commit through until the end of 2028.”
Rowston’s new deal continues a strong trend of players re-signing with the club in 2025, joining the likes of Ryan Angwin, Finn Callaghan, Connor Idun, Aaron Cadman, Xavier O’Halloran, Darcy Jones and Jack Buckley in pledging their futures to the GIANTS.
The new deal also comes ahead of the 2025 Kevin Sheedy Medal, to be held at Crown Sydney on Thursday night.
