The GIANTS are thrilled to confirm that versatile utility Ryan Angwin has signed a new two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2028 AFL season.
Already contracted for 2026, the extension rewards the 22-year-old for his resilience and consistency across multiple roles since being drafted with pick 18 in the 2020 National Draft.
A classy left-footer with silky skills and a high football IQ, Angwin is equally comfortable on the wing or across half-back where his composure, creativity by foot, aerial toughness and his ground-level tenacity have made him a reliable and flexible option in Adam Kingsley’s side.
After a challenging start to his AFL career, including a fractured lower leg that limited him to just one game in 2022, Angwin bounced back strongly in 2023 with 15 AFL appearances. In 2024, he added four more games to his tally before a syndesmosis injury interrupted his momentum mid-season.
Angwin was one of the standouts on the track ahead of the 2025 season before another syndesmosis injury delayed the start to his 2025 campaign. Returning through the VFL in round four, Angwin was one of the club’s most consistent performers throughout the VFL to earn a long-awaited AFL call up in round 15 against the Suns.
Playing in 10 straight games since his return to the AFL side – including an impressive performance in last week’s Elimination Final clash with the Hawks – Angwin continues to show his toughness and his versatility to underline his value as a reliable piece in the GIANTS’ best side.
GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, said it was great to reward Angwin with a new two-year deal.
“Ryan has had to work through his fair share of challenges early in his career but he’s shown great resilience and more importantly he’s shown he can be a really solid contributor to our side,” McCartney said.
“Whether it’s on the wing or across half-back, he plays with maturity and consistency beyond his years and the impact he’s had across the second half of the season at AFL level is a great reflection of his professionalism, talent and toughness.
“We’re thrilled to have Ryan commit to the GIANTS through to 2028 and we look forward to seeing his continued development as part of this exciting group.”
Angwin’s new deal follows a host of players recommitting to the club throughout 2025, with the likes of Finn Callaghan, Connor Idun, Aaron Cadman, Xavier O’Halloran, Darcy Jones, and Jack Buckley all signing new deals this year.
