The GIANTS’ VFL side will hit the road for a do-or-die clash with Richmond this Saturday in Port Melbourne as part of the VFL Wildcard Round.
Finishing the VFL’s home and away season in ninth spot, the Wildcard Round will allow the GIANTS a chance to win their way into this year’s finals series with victory over the eighth-placed Tigers on Saturday.
A unique concept introduced in 2023, the VFL Wildcard Round features two matches between the sides who finished seventh to tenth on the VFL ladder at the conclusion of the home and away season, with the two winners earning the last two finals spots.
Collingwood (7th) will host Williamstown (10th) in the other Wildcard clash.
The highest-ranked winner in the two Wildcard Round games will book a spot in finals as the seventh-placedteam and will take on the Lions in Brisbane in an elimination final the following week.
While the lowest-ranked winner in this weekend’s Wildcard Round will officially enter the finals as the eighth-placed side and will play Casey in an elimination final in Melbourne.
After a strong season that saw them go 10-8 across 18 games, the GIANTS will be hoping to tame the Tigers on the road on Saturday as they look to advance to the 2025 VFL finals series.
The top six sides on the VFL table will all have a bye during the Wildcard Round, ahead of the first week of finals the following week.
