Small forward Brent Daniels will face a fitness test in a bid to return to the side set take on Hawthorn at GIANTS Stadium on Saturday.

The lively goal sneak has had an impressive start to the 2023 season after missing all of 2022 with injury issues.

Daniels played 11 of the first 12 games, kicking 17 goals across that period, before suffering a hamstring injury that has kept him out since round 12.

GIANTS coach Adam Kingsley said Daniels will need to get through main training on Thursday to put his hand up for selection.

“He’s a chance,” Kingsley said.

“He’s probably touch and go I would think. He needs to get through main training for us to consider playing him.

“I’m not sure which way that will go. He still had a little bit of soreness last week so we decided to not play him at either level and give him another week of training. We’ll see how that unfolds on Thursday and make a decision.”

Despite a few players copping knocks in the wet and contested conditions in Alice Springs on Sunday, Kingsley is expecting the 23 that defeated the Demons to all be available to take on the Hawks this week.

"It appears that we’re all ok,” he said.

“We’re having a light session today, we’re having our main training session on Thursday where we’ll get a better understanding on how they’ve pulled up and whether or not they’re moving alright but I expect them to be fine.”

Half-back Lachie Whitfield is also set to return on Saturday from suspension for game 199.

“It’s pretty competitive for spots in our back half, particularly after last weekend’s performance from those guys,” Kingsley said.

“Lachie will come back in, he’s ready to go, we’ll have to manage that somehow.”

The GIANTS take on Hawthorn at GIANTS Stadium on Saturday at 4:35pm.
