The Greater Western Sydney GIANTS have completed a successful trade period, gaining experienced pair Ryan Griffen and Joel Patfull and securing three of the first seven selections in next month’s NAB AFL Draft.

Griffen, 28, is an All-Australian midfielder, dual best & fairest winner at the Western Bulldogs and was captain for the 2014 season. After 202 games for the Bulldogs, Griffen has signed a four year deal with the GIANTS.

Patfull, 29, played 182 games for the Brisbane Lions and was a dual best & fairest winner in 2012 and 2013 and has signed a two year deal.

PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy players Jack Steele (Canberra) and Jeremy Finlayson (Culcairn, NSW) were also secured via last week’s Academy Bidding meeting.

The GIANTS are the only club with three selections in the top 10 and enter the NAB AFL Draft with picks 4, 6, 7, 23, 24 (committed to Steele), 80, 98 and 116 (committed to Finlayson).

GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said it was productive trade period for the club.

“We are delighted to secure quality players and people in Ryan Griffen and Joel Patfull. They are two proven performers who bring experience and class and we have also strengthened our position at the draft by acquiring two extra picks in the top 10,” Matthews said.

“Importantly we continue to develop talent from the PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy and welcome Jack Steele from the ACT and Jeremy Finlayson from Culcairn in the Riverina.

"Overall we have strengthened our list and look forward to the 2015 season with a sense of excitement and anticipation."

Players Jonathan Giles, Sam Frost, Mark Whiley, Kristian Jaksch, Jono O'Rourke and Tom Boyd all found new clubs during the trade period.

"We wish all of these players well for the future and thank them for their contribution to the GIANTS," Matthews said.

"In particular, I want to acknowledge Jonathan Giles who was an integral part of our team for the first three seasons and made an outstanding contribution to the GIANTS  on and off the field."

The NAB AFL Draft will be held on the Gold Coast on November 27 and the pre-season and rookie draft will be held on December 3.
