With more than 180,000 people flocking to Sydney Olympic Park this weekend for the Sydney Telstra 500, Team GWS were right in the thick of the action with a huge AFL family fun zone drawing big crowds.

Across the three action-packed days, the AFL zone proved to be a favourite for both young old.

With competitors from as young as three through to 70 years of age – no one could resist having a crack at the ‘big kick’.

The crowed took full advantage of having fin out in the sunshine and no one seemed to be too fazed at some of the kicking styles on show.

Thankfully, on Sunday, newly appointed coach Kevin Sheedy was on hand to help polish a few of the competitors’ kicking skills.

Sheedy spent more than two hours signing autographs and shelling out handy hints to the eager competitors.

One of the young competition winners Matthew, who took home a family pass to the first game of the 2010 AFL season between the Sydney Swans and St Kilda at ANZ stadium, was speechless when receiving his prize from Sheedy.

“I can’t believe I just got to kick the ball with Sheeds. My Dad says he’s a legend. I was so nervous I didn’t know what to say.”

Sheedy spent the rest of the day mingling with the crowd and posing for photos – and of course spreading the exciting word about Team GWS.
