Jeremy Laidler will join the GIANTS as an Assistant Coach.

Drafted by Geelong at pick 32 in the 2008 Rookie Draft, Laidler played two games with the Cats before being traded to Carlton in 2010 and then making his way to the Swans in 2013 as a delisted free agent.

He played 87 games during his time in the AFL, booting eight goals along the way before his announcing his retirement at the end of the 2017 season.

Following his playing career, he took up a position as a Development Coach with the Swans before being named the club’s VFL coach.

GIANTS General Manager of Football, Jason McCartney, welcomed Laidler to the club.

“We’re excited to welcome Jeremy, his wife Amber, and their young son Will to the GIANTS family,” he said.

“Jeremy brings a wealth of experience, both from his playing career, as well as from the last four years as part of the Swans’ coaching staff.

“We’ll have a new-look coaching staff in 2023, and Jeremy complements the other coaches we have brought in perfectly.”

Laidler rounds out Adam Kingsley’s assistant coaches for the upcoming AFL season, joining Port Adelaide Club Champion Brett Montgomery, Adelaide great Ben Hart, and current assistant Craig Jennings. Ruck coach Shane Mumford will also continue his part-time role with the club.

The GIANTS will bid farewell to VFL coach Damian Truslove after five seasons at the club with Truslove making the difficult decision to return home to Victoria.

VFL Coach Damian Truslove will return to Victoria in 2023.

Truslove was part of the AFL program from 2016-2019 and returned to the GIANTS at the end of 2021, working in the AFLW program as the senior assistant coach.

In 2022 he led the club’s VFL program as Head Coach, as well as working as a development coach across the AFL program.

McCartney thanked Truslove for his contribution to the club.

“Damian has been a wonderful coach at our football club over several seasons,” he said.

“His impact at the club has been immense, and we’re grateful for the work he’s done developing our younger players.

“We thank Damian for his dedication and involvement at the GIANTS, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
