GIANTS midfielder Matt de Boer has been ruled out of the round 14 clash with the Western Bulldogs at GIANTS Stadium after being diagnosed with concussion.

The veteran suffered a heavy knock during the third quarter of the match against the Kangaroos on Sunday. De Boer reported symptoms in the last quarter and didn’t return to the field.

He underwent a concussion test post-match which he passed, however his symptoms worsened overnight and he was subsequently entered into the 12-day concussion protocols.

Tough midfielder Harry Perryman will also be sidelined after suffering four broken ribs in Sunday’s match.

As reported on Monday, Perryman has been released from hospital but will remain in Melbourne for a few more days for observation.

The 23-year-old will be sidelined for at least a month with a timeline to return to the field unknown at this early stage.

GIANTS Head of Medical James Rahme said:

“Harry is in good spirits but still a fair bit of pain from what was a relatively serious injury,” Rahme said.

“He has the four broken ribs but has been cleared of anything further at this stage.

“He’s being well looked after and all going well, will return to Sydney later this week.

“Matt has also gone into the concussion protocols after reporting symptoms towards the end of the game.

“We kept him off and he underwent a concussion test after the game. While he passed that, his symptoms worsened overnight and we've now placed him in the concussion protocols."

Meanwhile, experienced defender Phil Davis is expected to return to the field this weekend after overcoming a long-term hamstring injury.

The 31-year-old suffered the injury in round two and returned to full training last week.

He’s expected to line up at either VFL or AFL level this weekend.

“It’s going to be great to see Phil back on the field and he’s available for selection,” Rahme said.

“He’s put in a mountain of work to get to this point and we’re looking forward to him having an impact in the back half of the year."

Star midfielder Tim Taranto will undergo a fitness test at main training on Thursday to assess his availability for Saturday night’s match.

The 2019 Kevin Sheedy Medallist has been sidelined for the past four weeks as he manages an ongoing back injury.
