The GIANTS have claimed their second consecutive win over the Swans in the Female Winter Series at Manuka Oval on Saturday afternoon.

AFLW-listed players Katherine Smith, Ally Dallaway, Tait Mackrill, Brodee Mowbray and Georgie Fowler starred for the GIANTS as they recorded a dominant 16.9 (105) to 2.2 (14) win over their cross-town rivals.

Consisting of players and from across NSW and the ACT, the Female Winter Series provides an opportunity for elite local talent to continue developing their game during the AFLW off-season, as well as providing an opportunity for young and emerging talent to put their skills on display.

“It was another strong display of football from our GIANTS girls,” said GIANTS Winter Series coach Lloyd Perris.

“We focussed on using the size of Manuka Oval to get the ball into space, and as a result we were able to move the ball efficiently.

“Our backline, coached by Isadora Macleay, was well led on-field by Katherine Smith, Tarni Evans and Jodie Hicks – who held firm across half back and started a lot of our ball movement.

“Jas Smith competed hard in the ruck, allowing midfielders such as Tess Cattle and Tait Mackrill to get the ball going our way.

“Cynthia Hamilton showcased her ability as a tough and skilful player, including a couple of big moments where she attacked the ball at real speed. The ultimate professional Alyce Parker (Midfield Coach) guided the midfield group well.

“Our forward line, coached by Georgia Garnett, made the most of their opportunities. Olivia Cicolini showed how dangerous she is up forward, combining with Hayley Macdonald as strong targets.

“It was great to see Georgie Fowler have a big influence on the game - she has worked incredibly hard over the last few months and played with real confidence on Saturday."

The GIANTS AFLW listed girls now turn their attention to pre-season seven, which begins in two weeks.

Non-contracted AFLW players will continue to push their claim for selection in the upcoming NAB AFLW Draft on June 29.
