Alyce Parker continues to create history at the GIANTS, winning her third straight club champion award, the Gabrielle Trainor Medal.
She’s the first player – male or female – to win three club championships and she’s done so in just the club’s sixth AFLW season, and her fourth in the competition.
Parker was awarded the club’s most prestigious AFLW honour at an event at the Hyatt Regency in Sydney on Thursday night, receiving the medal named after women’s football pioneer Gabrielle Trainor.
The 21-year-old finished the 10-round season at the top of the count, edging out captain Alicia Eva, All Australian squad member Cora Staunton and Nicola Barr with Tanya Hetherington rounding out the top five.
In one of the closest final tallies, the top four were separated by just four votes – Parker winning with 66 votes from Eva (64), Staunton (63) and Barr (62).
Eva sat atop the leader board at the first look of the vote count following the conclusion of round four, with Parker and Barr rounding out the top three.
Come round seven, Parker had made her way to the top, leading Eva by 11 with Barr still in the top three courtesy of her new role in the forward line.
With Parker only playing in two of the final three rounds, it set the scene for a nail-biting finish, with the midfield star holding off a fast-finishing Staunton to win her third club champion award.
A consistent performer and stalwart in the GIANTS’ midfield, Parker averaged 18.7 disposals, 11.3 contested possession and five tackles a game across the 2022 season. She also led the GIANTS in clearances.
Parker was also awarded the Members’ Choice Award for the third year running.
GIANTS Head of Women’s Football, Briana Harvey, commended Parker for her third Gabrielle Trainor Medal in four seasons in the competition.
“Alyce is a phenomenal athlete,” Harvey said.
“She’s her own harshest critic and I know she wasn’t fully satisfied with her season, but it’s a testament to her hard work week in and week out and the team-first role she plays that she’s won this award.
