Greater Western Sydney GIANTS midfielder Jono O’Rourke will miss the next six weeks with a broken jaw.
The number two pick in the 2012 draft suffered the injury in the second quarter of the UWS GIANTS narrow win over the Belconnen Magpies in the NEAFL, and will undergo surgery on Friday.
Another player taken early in the 2012 draft, pick 12 Kristian Jaksch has also been sidelined for six weeks with a partial tear to his medial meniscus. The 18 year old has already been operated on.
In better news for the GIANTS, James Stewart is available for selection this week having overcome a back injury.
Standing at 195cm, Stewart is a future ruck prospect for the GIANTS and was taken with the 27th pick in last year’s draft.
Fellow ruckman Andrew Phillips has had another set back with his hamstring injury and will miss the next three weeks.
Meanwhile 2012 NAB Rising Star nominee Dom Tyson continues to impress with his recovery from pre-season knee surgery and is expected to be available to play in three weeks.
