Several players pressed their claims for senior selection in the UWS GIANTS’ 191-point demolition of the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium.

The GIANTS made easy work of their opponents, dominating possession through the midfield and controlling the game from start to finish.

Goal sneak Jed Lamb led the charge with six goals, including three in the first quarter while veteran defender Josh Hunt ventured forward to kick five majors.

In total there were 15 individual players who contributed to the GIANTS’ goal tally.

UWS GIANTS coach Brett Hand said it was pleasing to see his side regain some accuracy in front of goal and play consistent football.

“Our tall targets in the forward line drew the ball towards them and we had crumbers at their feet,” Hand said.

“Jed got three in the first quarter and was really lively but the pleasing thing was that he was unselfish and gave away another couple.

“It was pleasing from the first bounce right up to the last siren… I was really impressed with our tackling and our harassment as well as our ball use.”

Hand said midfielders Tomas Bugg (32 possessions) and Jon O’Rourke (30 possessions) both had solid games while Liam Sumner was dangerous up forward with the ball.

“We dominated the midfield with Bugg and O’Rourke having lots of it and Sumner’s relentless approach was the standard set from the first bounce.”

The GIANTS only conceded two goals for the match, which could see a number of defenders elevated including Tim Mohr who had a delayed start to the season due to foot and knee injuries.

The UWS GIANTS’ next match is against Eastlake at StarTrack Oval in Canberra this Sunday.
