Sam Reid’s story is well known.

The 28-year-old has overcome injuries, a two year retirement and three rookie drafts to establish himself in the competition.

Now in his ninth season in the AFL, Reid has found himself as an important part of the GIANTS’ best 22.

Last Saturday’s Elimination Final win over the Swans was his 63rd game but first final.

“It felt pretty bloody good to be honest,” he said.

“It was very exciting, I thought I might have had more nerves but I had more excitement.

“Having missed the last couple of year’s finals by not getting selected and being injured was pretty disappointing, so to get out there on the weekend, have a win and play the way we did was really exciting.”

Reid has enjoyed the most consistent season of his career in 2018, playing 20 games so far.

The former Bulldog credits a number of changes in the off-season to his success on the field.

“I did a few things during the pre-season, I changed my diet and cut some stuff out and sort of targeted anti-inflammatory foods to help me recover,” he said.

“I think that’s gone a long way and it helps when you have a full pre-season as well so I didn’t miss too much, and knowing my role and having the confidence of the coaches also helps.”

Reid and the GIANTS are now preparing to take on Collingwood in a Semi Final on Saturday at the MCG, a ground at which the GIANTS don’t have the strongest record.

Despite recording two wins in 14 games at the venue, Reid said the GIANTS take confidence from their round two win over the Magpies at the MCG.

“We love a big deck, we’re a pretty good running team and we’ve got a lot of speed and hopefully we can cover that,” he said.

“If our game plan comes to the fore we can get the win.”

The GIANTS also face a hostile crowd with Magpies supporters expected to be out in full force and full voice.

“I think we’ll just love that,” Reid said. “We love that as a team and playing in front of big crowds is what we do.”

“We played a few big games against Adelaide in Adelaide and West Coast on the road.

“They’re all big crowds and we played pretty good football against those teams and we’ll be looking at doing the same again this week against a firing Collingwood.”
