The GIANTS signed former Commonwealth Games decathlete Jake Stein as a category B rookie ahead of the 2017 season. Stein is an exciting prospect hailing from Penrith in Western Sydney. A World Youth Athletic Championships Gold Medallist in 2011, Stein represented Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow before giving away the sport. Having grown up playing soccer and athletics, Stein has also been courted by Rugby League teams in recent years. Stein has shown impressive development as a defender at NEAFL level over the past few seasons and won the club’s NEAFL Development Award in 2018. Stein played five games for the GIANTS in 2019 after debuting in round 13 before playing another six games in 2021, including both finals for the club, cementing a spot in the GIANTS’ backline late in the season.
