Alyce Parker coaching with the NSW/ACT Development Teams

Young gun Alyce Parker has capped off an incredible season, following up her inaugural All Australian selection with the rebel AFLW Young Leader Award.

A week after the 19-year-old was name a 2020 AFLW All Australian, in just her second season, Parker has been recognised with the leadership award.

A key pillar of rebel’s commitment to women in sport is to support and develop young female athletes, which is why they have developed the rebel Young Leader award where the winner partakes in their tailored mentoring program.

The aim of the program is to ensure female athletes are given the best career opportunities possible. By identifying emerging talent, rebel aims to provide female athletes key skills and knowledge to develop and forge strong careers both on field and beyond.

Each club across the AFLW competition had the opportunity to nominate one player from their AFLW list who embodies strong values and is true leader on and off the field.

The participants must be under 23 at the start of the season and the Parker was selected based on on-field performance, on-field and off-field attitude and demonstrating skill, tenacity and good sportsmanship.

GIANTS Head of AFLW and Academies Briana Harvey said Parker perfectly demonstrated these qualities.

“Alyce has demonstrated many leadership qualities during her time at the GIANTS,” Harvey said.

“She has skill and tenacity as a football player but is also ranked highly in the leadership group peer vote and is in the emerging leaders’ group at the club.

“Alyce is highly respected within the GIANTS, from the board, executive and football staff. This is due to her professional nature at training, respect for others and leading by example at all times.

“Alyce also goes out of her way to explore opportunities outside the club to make herself a better person and player.

“Her ability to self-reflect her actions at such a young age is impressive and along with her football success, she is also studying business agriculture, as well as working as a grounds keeper.”

Parker wins $5,000 in cash, access to the rebel mentor program and access to other opportunities with rebel to help build her profile.
