The GIANTS will challenge Shane Mumford’s striking charge at the tribunal on Wednesday.

The ruckman was charged with striking Sydney’s George Hewett in last Friday’s practice match at Blacktown International Sportspark.

Based on the available video evidence, the incident has been assessed as intentional conduct with low impact to the head.

On Monday, Mumford was offered a one-match sanction with an early guilty plea.

Should the club fail to overturn the ban, the one-match ban will not increase.

The burly ruckman is already set to miss the first two rounds of the Toyota AFL Premiership season due to a club-imposed sanction.

Any suspension imposed during the pre-season would be on top of the existing club imposed sanction.
