Greater Western Sydney CEO David Matthews says AFL clubs who don’tbelieve the GIANTS are prepared to draft the number one draft pickshouldn’t deal with the club.

Speaking on ABC Radio before Saturday’s game against Essendon, Matthews responded to claims that some clubs don’t believe the GIANTS are genuine about trading draft picks for mature age players.

“For those clubs who don’t’ think we are sincere then don’t bother talking to us and don’t offer anything up” he said.

“But I’m sure they are clubs that are and I know that there are clubs that are. And what we have said is that our picks are on the table to be considered but they have to deliver fair value.

“We are not going to trade pick one or pick ten or any of these early picks for somebody’s property steward or an assistant coach or the team runner.”

Matthews pointed to previous trade periods where it attempted – unsuccessfully - to exchange 17 year-old access selections Jaeger O’Meara and Jack Martin for established players.

“We had a number of discussions about players like Jaeger O’Meara and Jack Martin that didn’t add up to fair value so in the end they got converted to selections,” he said.

“But if fair value had been on the table for those players our preference would have been to take established players.

“I think what both the expansion clubs have shown is it’s not easy to attract an established players and for the other clubs it’s not easy to give one up.”
