The Auburn GIANTS have celebrated their first win of the season since changing their name and colours earlier this year.

Formed in 2011, the club made headlines across Australia as the first women's AFL team in Western Sydney and include a number of Muslim women from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Proudly sporting GIANTS jumpers for the first time, Auburn defeated Gosford Wildcats by nine-points at Adcock Park.

Formerly know as the Auburn Tigers, the club decided to become affiliated with the GIANTS to attract new players, supporters and sponsors.

The club also hopes the partnership will help to grow the game in western Sydney and encourage participation from female footballers.

Co-founder and football operations manager Amna Karra-Hassan said the new look side was proud to run out in orange and charcoal.

"Our new jumpers arrived the night before the game and all of the girls were really excited,” Karra-Hassan said.

"Now that we look like footballers we can start playing like footballers … It gives us a great sense of pride as a club.

“This partnership with the GIANTS is a fantastic opportunity to encourage people from a range of multicultural communities to be involved with AFL.”

Karra-Hassan said the GIANTS completely dominated the first half of the match and held on to win despite a late comeback by Gosford.

Winger Yashar Kammoun, who suffered a concussion in the last quarter, was named best on ground while vice-captain Nasren Wilson was dangerous up forward.

Next week the GIANTS take on the undefeated Randwick City Angels at Pioneers Park.
