Midfielders Jack Steele and Josh Kelly have continued their stellar form in the NEAFL with starring roles in the UWS GIANTS’ 38-point victory over Brisbane Reserves.

The pair were instrumental for the GIANTS, amassing 69 touches between them in a one-sided affair at Coorparoo on Sunday.

Steele was dominant through the midfield with nine clearances and 11 tackles while Kelly pushed forward to kick three goals.

UWS GIANTS Coach Brett Hand said both players are doing everything possible in the reserves to earn senior selection.

“Jack is taking a step forward each week and working hard to improve different areas of his game… he was very good again on the weekend,” Hand said.

“It’s a similar story with Josh who is just a class above at the moment around stoppages and with his ball use.

“Another guy performing well for us is Curtly Hampton who notched up 35 touches with a lot of those being contested disposals.”

Up forward it was Jed Lamb who did most of the damage with five goals, including four majors in the second half.

Tall targets Rory Lobb (three goals), Andrew Phillips (one goal) and Tom Downie (one goal) also presented well throughout the match.

“It’s been a frustrating month for Jed in front of goal but it’s good to see him rewarded for his persistence,” Hand said.

“We got off to a slow start on Sunday due to the tricky conditions but we lifted in the second quarter thanks to our tackling pressure around the ground.”

The GIANTS led most of the statistical categories against Brisbane including disposals, tackles, marks and possession percentage.

This week the top-of-the-ladder UWS GIANTS face Gold Coast Reserves at Spotless Stadium from 10.30am.

The match will be a curtain raiser to the GWS GIANTS v Adelaide game at 2.10pm.
