GIANTS co-captain Phil Davis will miss the rest of the season after straining his hamstring against Port Adelaide on Saturday.

The defender suffered the injury in the second term and underwent surgery on Wednesday morning.

Davis, who leads the club in ‘one percenters’ - such as smothers, shepherds and spoils - played 12 games this season.

In better news for the GIANTS, midfielders Adam Treloar and Stephen Coniglio will be available for selection ahead of the Battle of the Bridge vs Sydney at Spotless Stadium on Saturday.

Treloar missed last week with groin soreness while Coniglio failed a concussion test after suffering a heavy knock against Essendon.

Meanwhile courageous midfielder Jacob Townsend will also be available for selection, overcoming a concussion sustained in the NEAFL last weekend.

Ruckman Rory Lobb (cork) and midfielder Lachie Whitfield (concussion) will face fitness tests this week ahead of team selection on Thursday night.

Defender Matthew Buntine will miss a further week as he continues to recover from two recent concussions.

Tom Scully (shoulder), Dylan Shiel (knee), Shane Mumford (ankle), Tim Mohr (knee), Liam Sumner (foot) and Pat McKenna (hip) remain in the rehab group.

The GIANTS play Sydney at Spotless Stadium on Saturday, August 22 from 2.10pm – Tickets available here
