The GIANTS have named a 26-man squad, that includes four players who have yet to make their debut in the orange and charcoal, for their Sunday afternoon clash with the Western Bulldogs at UNSW Canberra Oval.

Forward Zac Langdon has been confirmed as the GIANTS’ 84th debutant, but draftees Nick Shipley and Aiden Bonar, and former Collingwood defender Lachlan Keeffe could also make their GIANTS debuts, having been named on an extended interchange.

GIANTS 2017 leading goalkickers Jeremy Cameron, Toby Greene and Jonny Patton have all been named in the forward line, while reigning Kevin Sheedy Medallist Josh Kelly has been named in the forward line.

Running machine Tom Scully is a notable omission with Jeremy Finlayson, who made his AFL debut in round 15 last year, named in his place on the wing.

However, there is positive news with GIANTS coach Leon Cameron telling reporters on Thursday that Scully should be right to return in round two.

“Tom Scully sort of sits in that really unique bracket, because he doesn’t need a pre-season because of his running ability,” Cameron said.

“He’ll definitely play in round two.”

Rory Lobb and Dawson Simpson have both been named in the 26-man squad with Cameron confirming on Thursday that only one will make the final 22 for the blockbuster clash with the Dogs.

“The two of them have had different summers as we know,” he said.

“Dawson had a terrific summer in terms of his preseason having not really missed a beat, whereas Rory’s come really late.

“He’s been running for six or seven weeks, training for three or four weeks and has played a game two weeks ago.

“We’ll also take into consideration their ruck stocks too… it won’t be both, it’ll be one or the other.”

Under new AFL rules, clubs are able to name a 26 man squad in 2018, compared to the 25 in 2017, giving coaches more flexibility to name an extra ruckman, defender, forward and midfielder.

The final 22 will be named at 5pm on Friday.
