The GIANTS are pleased to announce WestConnex as a foundation community partner as part of a three-year deal to support GIANTS Care programs and communities in western Sydney.

GIANTS CEO David Matthews said the new partnership has ensured the expansion of GIANTS care, which offers a range of programs and initiatives to address some of the biggest issues facing youth, families and communities across western Sydney.

“Through GIANTS Care we deliver a range of outstanding programs to further enrich the lives of people in western Sydney, with a specific focus on health, harmony, education and employment,” Mr Matthews said.

“We’re delighted to have WestConnex join us as a community partner of the club, which has enabled us to expand GIANTS Care, ensuring we can help more people in more ways.

“GIANTS Care wouldn’t be possible without the significant investment made by our foundation partners and we thank WestConnex for their support.”

Sydney Motorway Corporation CEO Dennis Cliche said WestConnex was delighted to support the GIANTS and their suite of initiatives that will help benefit communities throughout western Sydney.

“Our partnership demonstrates a shared commitment to connect and engage with our community and leave a lasting legacy for western Sydney.

“The GIANTS play a significant role in leading vital community programs which will deliver positive outcomes for disadvantaged youth, community groups and local businesses and we are proud to be supporting their target goal to double the club’s community outreach to 25,000 people by 2018.

GIANTS Head of Community, Ali Faraj said under the new partnership, the GIANTS administration and training facilities at Olympic Park has been re-named the “WestConnex Centre”, a hub for the delivery of many of the club’s community programs.

“Thanks to the contribution from WestConnex, GIANTS care has been expanded to include a 12-week Men’s Health Program aimed at improving the physical health of 30 GIANTS members living in western Sydney,” Mr Faraj said.

“Sadly Sydney’s western suburbs have some of the highest rates of chronic disease in the country, including heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.

“This targeted program, which will allow GIANTS members access to the WestConnex centre, aims to tackle this serious issue and provide participants with a greater understanding of chronic disease and help them achieve improved health results.”

Minister for Sport, WestConnex and Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres welcomed the GIANTS  who join Wests Tigers as community partners with WestConnex.

“We welcome the GIANTS to this new partnership which will genuinely create positive outcomes for people across western Sydney. It’s part of a broader program which has resulted in more than 25 grants to local community groups over the past six months,” Mr Ayres said.

“While WestConnex will help unlock western Sydney’s potential with more jobs and less congestion, the NSW Government is equally committed to delivering meaningful opportunities to improve the health and well-being of the greater western Sydney community now and into the future,” Minister Ayres said.
