GIANTS forward Adam Tomlinson will be sidelined for 12 weeks after injuring his toe in the club's win over Melbourne.

Tomlinson suffered a toe ligament rupture (turf toe) in the second quarter at StarTrack Oval, Canberra and was subbed out of the game. The 21-year old will have surgery on Thursday.

The versatile forward is into his fourth season at the GIANTS, having played 47 games and kicking 15 goals since being selected as pick nine in the 2011 NAB AFL draft.

Meanwhile, exciting forward Will Hoskin-Elliott will face a fitness test later this week and may be available for selection.

Hoskin-Elliott injured his shoulder in the GIANTS' final NAB Challenge match against the Swans last month.

Jon Patton (knee), Lachie Plowman (elbow), Liam Sumner (wrist), Jacob Townsend (foot), Jeremy Finlayson (hip) and Sam Schulz (hip) remain in the rehab group and are expected to return to the field in the coming weeks.
