Ruckman Rory Lobb and forward Jed Lamb could be in line for a senior recall after strong performances in the UWS GIANTS’ 31-point win over Gold Coast Reserves.

The duo were dangerous in attack, kicking seven goals between them, in the club’s round one clash at Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday.

Despite a scare in the third term when the side conceded five straight goals, the UWS GIANTS ran out comfortable winners - 17.18 (120) to 14.5 (89).

UWS GIANTS coach Brett Hand said he was impressed by the work-rate and frenetic pressure of his forward targets.

“Jed Lamb found a lot of the ball and contributed with four goals which was great to see,” Hand said.

“Similarly Rory Lobb (three goals) was dangerous up-front and took some of the best contested marks I’ve ever seen from him which was pleasing.

“Our forward entries were really impressive and our tackling pressure around the ground set the tone for the match.”

Other good performers included PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy products Jack Steele and Zac Williams who were both strong through the midfield.

Defenders Curtly Hampton and Adam Kennedy also pushed their claim for senior selection while Tim Mohr impressed in his second game back from a knee reconstruction.

“It was a good win to start the season but there are definitely things we can improve on moving forward,” Hand said.

“We had a lot of the ball, but also wasted some opportunities and Gold Coast came our firing in the third term, kicking five straight goals.

“To wrestle back the momentum and re-group in the final term was pleasing and we look forward to our next challenge."

The reserves are sitting third on the NEAFL ladder, mirroring the GIANTS in the AFL who are undefeated this season.

The UWS GIANTS face cross-town rivals Swans Reserves at the SCG this Saturday at 12.55pm.
