GIANTS small forward Liam Sumner is expected to miss start of the 2015 season due to a foot injury.

The 21-year old will be sidelined for the next four and half months due to a navicular stress fracture in his right foot.

No surgery is required for the injury with the small forward to wear a moon boot for the next two months.

Sumner has played 12 games in his three seasons at the GIANTS and is expected to return to the field in the middle of April.

Meanwhile, young forward James Stewart has also suffered an interrupted pre-season after being diagnosed with glandular fever.

Stewart is resting away from the club and so far no timeline has been put on his return to training.

Stewart ended last season on a high, kicking three goals in the GIANTS’ Round 23 win against the Western Bulldogs.

He also took out the NEAFL Development Award after a strong season for the UWS GIANTS.
