Another young midfield star has re-committed to the GIANTS with Stephen Coniglio penning a two-year contract extension.

Coniglio follows in the footsteps of Dylan Shiel, Jeremy Cameron, Devon Smith, Will Hoskin-Elliott and a host of other players who have recently re-signed with the club.

The new deal will see Coniglio remain at the GIANTS until at least the end of 2017.

The 22-year-old has played 56 games for the GIANTS after being selected with pick two in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft.

A fan favourite and Australia Post AFL Multicultural ambassador, Coniglio said he can’t wait to see what the future holds at the GIANTS.

“The GIANTS are such a great club so I’m very keen to stick around and be part of the journey,” Coniglio said.

“We’ve had a couple of other boys already re-commit and we’re starting to build something special.

“I love the club and where we’re going. There’s plenty of hard work to come but I think we’re definitely on the right track."

Coniglio has enjoyed a great start to 2015 averaging 23 possessions and five tackles a match before injuring his shoulder against Collingwood in round 11.

The West Australian made a successful return in the GIANTS' 35-point win over St Kilda on Sunday, accumulating 26 touches and a career-high 17 tackles.

GIANTS Chief Executive David Matthews said he was thrilled to have Coniglio re-commit to the club.

“We couldn’t be happier with Stephen’s decision to remain a GIANT for at least a further two years,” Matthews said.

“Stephen is not only a talented footballer but he embodies the great culture we have built at the club.

“He is part of the GIANTS’ emerging leaders group and is very well respected among not only players and staff but supporters as well."

GIANTS coach Leon Cameron said Coniglio continues to be a vital cog in the club’s midfield brigade.

“Stephen is an exciting young talent with great leadership qualities and a mentality for hard-work,” Cameron said.

"He’s been an exceptional player for us and I’m sure along with us, our fans will be thrilled with his decision to re-sign."

The eighth-placed GIANTS play Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday at 2.10pm.
