The GIANTS have joined a range of sporting organisations to take part in the 2013 Return2Sport Expo.

The expo is being held at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre, showcasing a wide range of sport, recreation & leisure activities for people with a disability.

Nearly 30 different sports and activities provided the opportunity for people to take part in hands on demonstrations throughout the day.

Director of Sports 4 All Greg Brown says the annual expo is a great way for people with disabilities to get back into sport.

“Through the Royal Rehabilitation Centre, who deal a lot with people who’ve had car accidents or brain injuries, they’ve found the best way to get people back into life is through sport, because it’s such a great vehicle to bring people out of depression and giving them goals for life,” said Brown.

“It’s great for people to come along and see what they’re good at, what they like, to meet people from similar backgrounds and who are going through the same thing.

“The GIANTS have been marvellous by helping us develop a national AFL program for people with intellectual disabilities which started this year and is only going to get bigger and better next year and that wouldn’t have happened without their help.

“It’s not just those with intellectual disabilities but also people in wheelchairs, people with cerebral palsy and the opportunity for them to be able to play and be part of an organisation changes lives.

“If you look around, you’ll hear laughter everywhere which is amazing considering the disabilities these people are living with. The corporate volunteers also love the day and can’t believe what they’ve got involved in and can’t wait for the next event,” he said.
