The GIANTS have added four players to their 25-man squad to play Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.
Ruckman Jon Giles, midfielder Mark Whiley, defender Nathan Wilson and utility James Stewart have all been added to an extended interchange bench with forward Jed Lamb omitted.
All four have been in strong NEAFL form with Whiley a chance of playing his first AFL match of the season after last week gathering 41 possessions and kicking two goals for the UWS GIANTS. Stewart is also yet to play a senior match this season after making his AFL debut in Round 23, 2013.
Head Coach Leon Cameron says he’s been impressed with the form of the four players that have come into the side.
“Our NEAFL side has been in tremendous form, winning their past 10 games and sitting top of the ladder," Cameron said.
"These four players have been strong contributors over a number of weeks and it’s a sign of our depth that they haven’t been playing senior football.
"Whiley has been one of the star performers for the UWS GIANTS, playing every game this year while Stewart has shown his ability to play a variety of roles. Wilson has excelled after moving to a half-back role and Giles is a proven performer in the ruck.
"I have no doubt whoever comes into the side will take it right up to the Demons at the MCG on Sunday."
Exciting defender Curtly Hampton will remain in the NEAFL for another week as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury.
The GIANTS will play Melbourne at the MCG this Sunday, August 17 at 3.20pm AEST. The match will be shown live in NSW and the ACT on 7mate and Fox Sports 3.
